A tropical cyclone, designated as 18U, is expected to intensify into cyclone strength later today or tomorrow, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM). A tropical cyclone watch has been issued for the Western Australian coast from Cape Leveque to Wallal Downs, including Broome and nearby islands. Gale-force winds are anticipated to develop within the next 12 to 36 hours, with the system potentially reaching a category three cyclone status by late Tuesday or Wednesday.

Additionally, a flood watch is in effect for catchment areas in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. While there is currently no immediate threat, the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services has advised the public to commence preparations for severe weather and to stay informed. Residents are urged to secure loose items such as vehicles, boats, and gas bottles, and should assemble an emergency kit including canned food, water for up to seven days, a first aid kit, medications, cash, and a battery-operated radio with spare batteries for updates.

This warning serves as a precaution as the region braces for potentially hazardous conditions.
