Harry Wilson will lead the Wallabies as captain in their upcoming Test match against Fiji in Newcastle, with Tate McDermott and Noah Lolesio set to take on playmaking duties. Their selection within the starting lineup suggests they may be preferred by coach Joe Schmidt for the upcoming British and Irish Lions Test in Brisbane on July 19.

In a notable move, league convert Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii will make his first Wallabies start on Australian home soil, partnering with Len Ikitau in the centre. The 21-year-old will play at No. 13 after a Super Rugby season at fullback for the Waratahs and following a recovery from a broken jaw.

Schmidt has opted for seasoned players, reintroducing former captain David Porecki into the front row. It’s been 643 days since Porecki last appeared for the Wallabies, having last played during the underwhelming 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign, where Australia failed to advance past the group stage.

The Wallabies’ starting lineup is as follows: Tom Wright, Harry Potter, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Len Ikitau, Max Jorgensen, Noah Lolesio, Tate McDermott, Harry Wilson (captain), Fraser McReight, Langi Gleeson, Jeremy Williams, Nick Frost, Allan Alaalatoa, David Porecki, and James Slipper.

The reserves include Billy Pollard, Angus Bell, Zane Nonggorr, Tom Hooper, Carlo Tizzano, Nic White, Ben Donaldson, and Filipo Daugunu.

Fiji’s team consists of Salesi Rayasi, Kalaveti Ravouvou, Iosefo Masi, Josua Tuisova, Jiuta Wainiqolo, Caleb Muntz, Simione Kuruvoli, Viliame Mata, Elia Canakaivata, Lekima Tagitagivalu, Temo Mayanavanua, Isoa Nasilasila, Peni Ravai, and Tevita Ikanivere (captain), alongside reserves Sam Matavesi, Haereiti Hetet, Mesake Doge, Mesake Vocevoce, Albert Tuisue, Philip Baselala, Isaiah Ravula, and Sireli Maqala.

This match presents an opportunity for both teams to showcase their talent and prepare for future challenges ahead.
