Voting is currently taking place in two significant byelections in Victoria, specifically for the Werribee and Prahran seats. The byelections were prompted by the resignations of former Treasurer Tim Pallas in December and former Prahran MP Sam Hibbins in November due to personal controversies.

Polling began at 8 am today, with voters in Werribee engaging with candidates such as Labor’s John Lister and Liberal’s Steven Murphy outside polling locations. Historically, Werribee has been a Labor stronghold since 1976, and before today’s voting, nearly half (48.28%) of its electorate had cast early or postal votes.

In contrast, the inner-city suburb of Prahran sees candidates Angelica Di Camillo from the Greens and Rachel Westaway from the Liberals interacting with constituents. The Greens have held the Prahran seat since 2014, and notably, Labor did not contest this time. As of now, early or postal voting in Prahran stands at 35.52%.

Polls will close at 6 pm, with counting expected to commence shortly thereafter.
