Volvo has initiated a recall for 195 of its plug-in hybrid vehicles sold in Australia due to a defect that poses a fire risk. The recall affects four specific models: the XC60 and XC90 SUVs, as well as the S60 sedan and V60 wagon.

According to Volvo Cars Australia, the problem arises from a manufacturing flaw in the high voltage battery’s cell modules. This defect may result in thermal overload, which could ignite a fire when the vehicle is parked with a fully charged battery.

The company has cautioned that such a fire hazard could potentially lead to severe consequences, including injuries or fatalities among vehicle occupants, other road users, and bystanders, along with the risk of property damage.

Owners of the affected models are urged to contact their authorised Volvo dealerships to arrange for complimentary repairs. For further assistance, Volvo customer care can be reached at 1300 787 802.
