Concerns have arisen following a video showing a child’s seatbelt reportedly unfastening during the slingshot ride at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The footage indicates that moments after the ride commenced, the lap seatbelt was visibly unsecured.

In response, SafeWork NSW has confirmed awareness of the incident over the weekend, clarifying that no injuries were reported. A spokesperson stated they are liaising with the Royal Agricultural Society to further investigate the matter. SafeWork NSW is committed to ensuring the safety of the event’s anticipated 800,000 visitors, conducting meticulous inspections and enforcing stringent safety regulations.

Over this Easter period, 23 safety notices have been issued by SafeWork NSW to mitigate risks associated with rides and attractions. The Royal Agricultural Society, which manages the Easter Show, assured the public that the slingshot ride is designed with multiple safety features. They acknowledged the seatbelt incident but emphasized that the ride operates with an over-shoulder harness and a lap belt as primary restraints, while an additional seatbelt serves as a secondary safety measure.

Moreover, the safety consultant for the carnival has since inspected the ride, repaired the seatbelt, and reinforced safety protocols with the ride operators to prevent future occurrences.
