Dramatic scenes unfolded in Bali as the Tanis Express, a tourist boat, began sinking shortly after departing from Lembongan Village on its way to Sanur. The vessel, which can carry 125 passengers, had 89 individuals onboard, including 77 tourists, when it was overwhelmed by large waves.
Footage captured the chaotic moments as passengers scrambled to escape the sinking ship, many opting to jump directly into the water or rush to the upper deck in a bid for safety. Nearby witnesses in another boat quickly intervened, providing rescue assistance to those in distress.
Among the passengers was Nicola Wood, who was travelling with her children. She described how the boat took on water unexpectedly, causing widespread panic. In her social media remarks, Wood recounted harrowing details, noting that “people smashed windows to escape.” While some passengers made it back to shore independently, local fishermen and smaller boats were instrumental in rescuing others.
Fortunately, a rescue team was able to evacuate all passengers safely, and reports indicated there were no injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident. The Tanis Express ultimately sank to the ocean floor after its harrowing ordeal. This boat had only been in operation for three months, making this incident particularly shocking for those involved.
