Victoria is currently experiencing intense heat, with temperatures nearing 40 degrees Celsius, particularly in the northern regions like Swan Hill, which hit 38.5 degrees. Melbourne also felt the heat, reaching 34.8 degrees. However, a weather front is moving through western Victoria, bringing potential relief as it may cool things down.

As temperatures are expected to drop, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned of severe thunderstorms developing this afternoon and overnight across central and eastern areas, including Melbourne. These storms could bring damaging winds and heavy rainfall, raising concerns about dry lightning igniting new fires, despite anticipated rainfall.

The Country Fire Authority has issued a fire weather warning for various districts in Victoria and has enacted a total fire ban due to the heightened risk. Firefighters are closely monitoring recent incidents in the Grampians and Little Desert National Parks.

Fortunately, temperatures are predicted to significantly decrease tomorrow, with Melbourne expecting a maximum of only 23 degrees and potential scattered showers and thunderstorms in eastern regions. Residents are advised to stay informed about the storm threat and to keep an eye on weather updates.
