The Brisbane Lions are poised to handle a disrupted training schedule as they prepare to move to Sydney for their grand final rematch against the Swans. Adverse weather, notably the effects of Cyclone Alfred, has forced the reigning champions to seek an alternative training facility, leaving them unable to use their Springfield grounds since last Wednesday.

As the Lions gear up for the 2025 AFL season, footy boss Danny Daly announced that the team would depart for Sydney on Wednesday. He expressed concern for those affected by the cyclone, stating, “First and foremost, on behalf of the football club, I hope everyone in Queensland and New South Wales are safe and well. These unexpected events happen from time to time, and we are grateful that everyone is managing the situation.”

Despite the weather disruptions, the Lions are scheduled for an indoor training session to maintain their fitness and cohesion. Daly mentioned that while not all logistics are finalised, relocating to Sydney earlier than planned will be advantageous in preparing for their upcoming match against Sydney.

Reflecting on past experiences, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Daly noted the importance of resilience and adaptability in facing unforeseen challenges. “These things happen unfortunately in life, and you just need to be resilient, be calm about it and work your way through it,” he commented, expressing confidence that their preparation will remain thorough.

The Gold Coast Suns are also feeling the impact of Cyclone Alfred but have managed to incorporate light training sessions into their programme. Overall, the Lions remain focused and determined as they navigate through these challenges ahead of the highly anticipated match.
