Parramatta Eels prop Junior Paulo has discussed the silver linings of his Lisfranc injury and the subsequent changes at the club. Paulo sustained the injury in round 18 last season as the Eels narrowly avoided finishing last, ending the year in 15th place. During his recovery over the off-season, he focused on fitness and lost weight, attributing this to his status as the oldest player on the team and the need to keep pace with younger teammates. “I’ve shed a couple of kilos, and if that’s going to benefit me, then I’m all for it,” he shared with 9News Sydney.

Looking ahead, Paulo acknowledges significant transformations within the squad, particularly with Jason Ryles stepping in as coach. Key players like Clint Gutherson, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, and Maika Sivo have departed, while Zac Lomax, Josh Addo-Carr, and Isaiah Iongi are notable new additions. Paulo believes this revitalisation was necessary for the club’s progression, stating that while change can be daunting, it was essential for improvement. The prop is optimistic about the upcoming season and the fresh dynamics within the Eels.
