Western Bulldogs’ coach, Luke Beveridge, has outlined the pathway for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan as he works towards a return to AFL competition. The young forward has not played this season due to personal challenges that delayed his return to full training until mid-February.
In a recent interview with Fox Footy, Beveridge could not confirm an exact timeline for Ugle-Hagan’s comeback. He clarified that the absence of a definitive return date should not be interpreted as the player missing the entire season. “I think people are using my words to maybe project that that’s a possibility,” he remarked, stressing that while uncertainty exists, the focus is on Ugle-Hagan’s preparation and consistency.
Beveridge explained that once Ugle-Hagan is able to consistently engage in training, he will be considered for selection. He noted the importance of a sustained effort from the player before he can return to play.
There have been reports suggesting that Ugle-Hagan has lost the trust of both teammates and the coaching staff. However, Beveridge refrained from confirming that specific issue, acknowledging instead that Ugle-Hagan is facing “life challenges” that have impacted his ability to perform. “It’s not really a trust situation,” said Beveridge, emphasising that the team’s priority is to support Ugle-Hagan in overcoming these challenges and rekindling his motivation.
As Ugle-Hagan shows signs of improving self-discipline and readiness, the club is hopeful for his progression back to the field. The coach concluded with a desire for Ugle-Hagan to maintain a steady commitment to training, which will ultimately determine his return timeline.
