Australian breakdancer Dr. Rachael Gunn, known as “Raygun,” has successfully auctioned a signed Team Australia shirt from the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics for $1860, with all funds raised benefitting a charitable cause. The distinctive green and gold ASICS uniform featured Gunn’s autograph on the front.

Gunn gained significant attention on an international level after her iconic run in the Paris qualifiers went viral. Despite her efforts, she faced challenges during her competitions, scoring no points in three battles during breaking’s Olympic debut. It’s important to note that the auction item was not the shirt she wore while performing her unique routine that included Australian-themed moves like the hopping kangaroo.

The proceeds from the auction are earmarked for Bunyip Preschool and Daycare in Harden, New South Wales, a community-focused facility that holds personal significance for Gunn, given her strong ties to the area. In a recent Instagram post, she expressed disbelief and gratitude toward supporters for the auction’s success, stating, “Wow!!! Can’t believe my signed shirt sold for this much!!” The funds will aid in restoring the preschool, which was damaged following a severe hailstorm that caused significant flooding.

Gunn, who also serves as a university lecturer, organised a kids’ charity disco event in Harden to further contribute to the fundraising efforts. With fond childhood memories in the region, she is determined to help the local preschool, which is temporarily housed at the Harden Showgrounds while repairs are underway. But as Gunn points out, there will soon be a need for relocation amid ongoing recovery efforts.

Despite the challenges in her Olympic journey, including public criticism regarding her selection to represent Australia, Gunn remains committed to leveraging her newfound fame for positive impact. She has witnessed a wave of support and engagement, as seen in similar auctions featuring items worn by other Australian athletes, reflecting a robust enthusiasm for supporting athletes and community causes alike.
