Two women are currently in hospital following lightning strikes in separate events on the Sunshine Coast during the night. One incident occurred in Yandina, while the other took place in Burpengary, amid severe thunderstorms and heavy rain affecting the area.

In a particularly intense bout of weather, West Woombye experienced a staggering 151mm of rain in just three hours overnight, with nearby Nambour recording 136mm. At approximately 3am, one driver became stranded due to flash flooding and required hospital transport, although they are in stable condition.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted Brisbane could receive up to 90mm of rain throughout the day. While a severe thunderstorm warning has since been lifted, the potential for heavy downpours remains.

Rainy conditions are expected to extend into the long weekend, though it is anticipated to ease by Sunday. In addition, heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for parts of New South Wales and Victoria today. Weatherzone reports that significant rainfall and possible thunderstorms will impact south-west New South Wales, progressing towards Sydney by later in the day and evening.

Moreover, damaging winds and potential hail could occur in the western and northern regions of New South Wales. Victoria is bracing for widespread rainfall of 20-30mm, with localized higher amounts, possibly reaching 40-50mm in certain areas.

Meanwhile, Adelaide and Hobart have experienced a cloudy start to the long weekend, with showers expected to develop. Conversely, most areas in the west and north of Australia are projected to remain dry and clear.
