Two teenagers have been taken into custody following a reported armed break-in and sexual assault in Cairns. The incident occurred around 3.30am when three boys allegedly entered a home in Manunda, threatening the occupants with a knife and demanding their possessions. Police reports indicate that two of the assailants took a female resident into a different room and sexually assaulted her.

After the trio fled the scene, law enforcement, aided by a dog squad, apprehended two of the suspects on nearby McCormack Street approximately an hour later. They are currently being interrogated by authorities, while a third individual remains at large.

Investigators suspect that the assailants were unknown to the victims. A crime scene has been established, and enquiries are ongoing.

Support resources are available for those affected, including the National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service at 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
