Two teenagers are currently recovering following a serious incident at a car meet on the Gold Coast, where a driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with a group of spectators.
The event, held at the Boatworks in Coomera, was intended to raise funds for a local cancer patient. However, as the driver reportedly engaged in reckless driving while leaving the meet, he lost control and crashed into a barrier situated near onlookers.
As a result of the crash, an 18-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment. A 16-year-old male also incurred leg injuries.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the details of the incident, with the driver co-operating with police. At this stage, no formal charges have been filed. Superintendent Brett Jackson described the driver’s actions as dangerous, emphasising that the conduct exhibited was indicative of hooning, which is a serious offence.
In response to the crash, the organisers of the car meet have opted to postpone all future events, affirming their disapproval of dangerous driving practices.
