An investigation is currently underway following an incident involving two scuba divers who were allegedly abandoned at sea during an organised tour near Rottnest Island, Western Australia. On March 2nd, the divers were participating in a trip run by the Perth Diving Academy when they were unintentionally left behind. Fortunately, a passing ferry operated by Rottnest Fast Ferries came to their aid, rescuing them approximately three nautical miles from the coast.

The divers had been stranded for several hours before being located by the ferry, according to ABC Perth. They were participating in the dive tour organised by the academy, which is based at Hillarys Boat Harbour. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has been informed of the incident and is leading the investigation.

A spokesperson from AMSA stated that any incidents involving passengers on Domestic Commercial Vessels (DCVs) are required to be reported to their authority. They emphasised their commitment to passenger safety and affirmed that they will take immediate and decisive action if any breaches of safety regulations are found during their inquiry.

The incident has understandably left both divers shaken, with one reportedly requiring hospital treatment following the ordeal. In light of the ongoing investigation, the Perth Diving Academy has refrained from making any comments regarding the situation.

This incident raises significant concerns about safety protocols during recreational diving tours and highlights the importance of ensuring that all participants are accounted for before departure.
