In Salt Lake City, Utah, police have apprehended two men suspected of planting an incendiary device beneath a news media vehicle. The incident unfolded when the Salt Lake City bomb squad was dispatched to investigate a suspicious item discovered under a vehicle parked close to an occupied building.
According to reports from CBS affiliate KUTV, investigators concluded that the device had been ignited but did not function as intended. Following the discovery, the FBI identified the suspects and executed a search warrant at a residence in the Magna area, situated to the west of the downtown district. The arrested individuals, aged 58 and 31, are potentially facing charges linked to weapons possession and terrorism threats, as reported by ABC affiliate KTVX.
The search led to the evacuation of nearby homes and uncovered various explosives, components associated with explosives, firearms, illegal drugs, and other related paraphernalia. Additionally, authorities found at least two items that were identified as hoax weapons of mass destruction. No details regarding the suspects’ motives or their relationship have been disclosed.
