A tragic incident off the coast of Bali has resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and left a 23-year-old Indonesian man missing, following the capsizing of a speedboat that was carrying 80 passengers. The vessel was en route from Nusa Penida when it sank and subsequently ran aground near Sanur port on Tuesday. Among those on board were five Australians, but further details about their safety have yet to be released.

The speedboat was found overturned at a beach close to the port. While the local search and rescue agency is investigating the situation, authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fatalities involving the two Chinese citizens.

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in Bali’s waters, as evidenced by a prior tragedy in March when an Australian woman lost her life in a separate boating accident involving another vessel that capsized in tumultuous seas. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has been urged to provide additional information regarding the situation, but as of now, no comments have been made.

This recent event underscores the risks associated with maritime travel in the region and calls attention to the need for improved safety measures for passengers aboard tourist boats.
