In Melbourne’s CBD, two individuals were hospitalised after a vehicle allegedly mounted the footpath, colliding with a pedestrian before crashing into a convenience store. The incident occurred on Elizabeth Street around 2:30 pm, involving a blue Mercedes Benz.
Among the injured was a 19-year-old man from Parkville, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. A 56-year-old man inside the store was also struck during the incident and required paramedics to remove him from the building, with his injuries similarly deemed non-life-threatening.
The 87-year-old driver of the Mercedes, the only occupant of the car, was unharmed. Authorities indicated that the convenience store suffered significant structural damage as a result of the crash. Emergency services were dispatched promptly to manage the situation and clear the area.
Crews are currently on-site, working to extract the vehicle using a winch. The driver’s licence is expected to undergo review in light of the incident, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.
