Detectives are seeking public assistance following a disturbing series of home invasions in Merrylands, Sydney’s west, which occurred early this morning. During these incidents, five separate homes were broken into between 4am and 6am, resulting in alarming encounters with residents, including two elderly women in their 80s.
Initial reports indicate that the suspect, armed with a knife, confronted various residents. One person sustained a minor injury during a struggle, revealing the violent nature of these invasions. In at least two instances, senior women were assaulted; one experienced an attempted sexual assault while the other was indecently touched.
Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty has shed light on the events, noting that one homeowner filmed the assailant as he attempted to break in after being confronted. In another account, an elderly woman awoke to find the intruder in her bed, where he held a knife to her throat while demanding sexual acts.
The police have established crime scenes across the affected residences and are actively investigating. They have described the offender as tall and slender with dark skin, likely in his 20s, and noted that he may have sustained an injury that could be causing him to bleed. Authorities have urged anyone who may have information about these events to contact Crime Stoppers to aid in the investigation.
