As President Donald Trump commands federal employees to return to their offices, he has spent his fourth consecutive day at his Mar-a-Lago resort. On Tuesday morning, he arrived at the Trump International Golf Course before returning after a few hours. Having left the White House on Friday, he plans to return on Wednesday evening after speaking at an investment conference in Miami.
Trump’s frequent visits to Florida are not unusual for a sitting president; however, they appear contradictory to his vocal opposition to remote work, a key strategy in his efforts to reduce the federal workforce. Recently, while signing an executive order amid reports of mass layoffs, he expressed a belief that federal employees are exploiting the option to work from home.
During his time in Florida, Trump typically plays golf almost daily at his nearby course, where supporters often gather to greet him. Notably, in the first month of his second term, he has spent over 12 nights at his Florida residence, often criticising his rival Joe Biden for spending weekends at home. Meanwhile, a White House representative noted that while Trump was golfing, he would also be engaged in work, receiving updates from his foreign policy team concerning discussions with Russian officials about Ukraine. An executive order signing is scheduled for later in the day, indicating a blend of leisure and duty.
