In a recent phone interview with CNN, former US President Donald Trump stated that he is “not even thinking about” Elon Musk, the billionaire tech entrepreneur. Trump described Musk as having issues, suggesting he would not engage in conversation with him for the foreseeable future. “The poor guy’s got a problem,” Trump remarked.

Trump had previously expressed disappointment over Musk’s criticism of his tax and spending cuts, to which Musk retaliated, claiming Trump would have lost the election without his support. During the call, Trump also discussed various economic topics, including an upcoming jobs report and inflation concerns, but confirmed that he had no plans to speak with Musk soon, wishing him well nonetheless.

As tensions rose between the two former allies on social media, attempts were made by mutual acquaintances to facilitate a reconciliation. Musk seemed open to this possibility, responding positively to a comment from investor Bill Ackman advocating for a united front.

In a notable shift, Trump is reportedly planning to sell or dispose of a Tesla vehicle he purchased earlier this year, further signifying their rift. He had allowed staff to use the car, which was visibly parked at the White House, but it appears he is ready to part ways with it, contrasting his earlier enthusiasm for Musk’s electronic vehicle brand, when he transformed the White House lawn into a temporary Tesla showroom.

As the spat heightened, Musk accused Trump of being connected to the Jeffrey Epstein files, a claim that reportedly aggravated the situation. Musk tweeted, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,” a message that shocked associates of both men. In response to Musk’s statements, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt labelled the situation an “unfortunate episode,” highlighting the lack of evidence supporting Musk’s allegations regarding Trump.

The behind-the-scenes negotiations to quell the escalating feud indicate the challenges in the relationship between these two powerful figures, as their previously amicable rapport has seemingly deteriorated into a public contention.
