Former US President Donald Trump has publicly criticised some of his previous supporters, calling them “weaklings” for buying into what he describes as Democratic propaganda surrounding the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This statement marks a notable rift within Trump’s coalition, as several supporters are demanding increased transparency regarding Epstein and the ongoing controversies linked to him since his death in 2019.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his anger towards what he refers to as the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” suggesting that his opponents are utilising the scandal to undermine his political standing. He accused his former allies of being misled by the media and the Democrats, declaring that he no longer desires their support, as they have not learned from past political manoeuvres. Trump’s criticism is particularly strong given that some Republican members of Congress are pushing for the Justice Department to release more documents related to the Epstein case.

Despite Trump’s dismissive stance on the controversy, fellow Republicans such as House Speaker Mike Johnson and other party members are advocating for transparency and calling for further inquiries into Epstein’s activities. They seek to hold hearings and even consider consulting Ghislaine Maxwell, another key figure in the Epstein saga, who is currently imprisoned.

Furthermore, Trump’s previous support for Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding the Epstein issue appears conflicted, as he has recently indicated a willingness to see more material released, while stressing the importance of credible evidence. Despite this, Bondi has ruled out the release of further documents, stating that the recent Justice Department memo on the matter stands firm.

As tensions rise within the party regarding the Epstein allegations, prominent Trump supporters like Marjorie Taylor Greene are attempting to facilitate a congressional vote that may compel the release of Epstein-related documents, although the procedure may take time due to scheduled recesses.

The developing situation illuminates an ongoing struggle for loyalty within Trump’s political base and raises questions about how the Epstein scandal will shape future political landscapes as calls for accountability grow louder.
