In a dramatic incident at Adelaide’s Dry Creek Wetlands, two courageous truck drivers, John and Rylie, saved a young man from a burning vehicle after it crashed and caught fire. The 25-year-old victim, now recovering in hospital, was trapped in his Toyota, which veered off Salisbury Highway and crashed approximately 50 metres into the wetlands.

As first responders were en route, John and Rylie, observing the situation, entered the water to rescue the driver. John recounted that he spotted the victim partly out of the car and immediately jumped into the water to assist. Upon reaching him, John discovered the driver was not breathing and promptly began administering CPR while Rylie alerted the arriving paramedics.

John expressed relief at learning later that the man had survived, highlighting their shared concern for his well-being. He described the rescue as simply “what you do,” emphasising that helping others during emergencies is a natural response. In a light-hearted moment, John quipped that the victim could repay their efforts with a beer, underscoring his humility and selflessness.

The incident serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that quick action and bravery can have in critical situations. John and Rylie’s readiness to help undoubtedly made a significant difference in the outcome for the young man.
