A serious accident on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne has led to significant traffic delays, with all outbound lanes closed between Warrigal Road and Forster Road. The incident occurred around 2:20 pm when a truck collided with a barrier, critically injuring the driver who has since been transported to hospital.
As a result of the crash, a light pole was also knocked down, causing further disruptions. Motorists are facing delays of up to an hour, with congestion reported extending back past Toorak Road. Drivers are being redirected off the freeway at Warrigal Road and advised to take alternative routes via the Princes Highway and Ferntree Gully to rejoin the freeway at Forster or Blackburn Roads.
Those commuting home from work are encouraged to exit the freeway as soon as possible, particularly towards Dandenong Road, to avoid prolonged delays. Emergency services are currently on-site assessing the situation, and with the freeway expected to remain closed for an extended period, it is advisable for drivers to plan their journeys accordingly.
Authorities are appealing for any witnesses to the crash or individuals with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit an anonymous report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
