Max Sica, convicted of the brutal murder of Neelma Singh and her siblings, Kunal and Sidhi, is making a renewed attempt to prove his innocence. The horrific crime took place in their Bridgeman Downs home in Brisbane in 2003. Sica, who was Neelma’s boyfriend at the time, has spent over 16 years behind bars since he was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years in a landmark trial.
Sica’s legal team is now seeking to appeal the conviction based on newly uncovered evidence that was not available during the original trial. Criminal lawyer Bill Potts emphasised the importance of this evidence, which he claims could alter the course of justice. In a notable figure, former detective Graham Crowley, who examined the case in his podcast Loose Ends, believes there is substantial doubt regarding Sica’s guilt, stating that the existing evidence does not implicate him in the killings. He specifically pointed to inconsistencies surrounding footprints found at the scene and the manner in which the murder weapon was discovered.
The appeal paperwork is anticipated to be lodged shortly, with a hearing scheduled for later this year. This week marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic event, and the families of the victims continue to endure the aftermath of their losses. Sica’s parents have consistently maintained their son’s innocence, expressing hope that the appeal will be granted and justice will ultimately prevail.
