In a tragic incident at North Adelaide’s Brougham Reserve, Aaron Stahlhut, a devoted father, was found dead while on his usual morning walk. The 54-year-old was characterised by his sister as having a “massive heart” and being an exemplary father. A former Defence Force comrade added that Stahlhut would be remembered as a respected soldier and a genuinely good person.

Stahlhut had started his daily walks to improve his health in preparation for a kidney transplant. After the successful procedure, he continued this routine, which had become an integral part of his life.

The arrested suspect, 20-year-old Rylie Everson-Clare, previously attended Westminster School in Adelaide, an institution known for its prestige. Principal Simon Shepherd expressed the school’s shock at the incident, revealing that Everson-Clare was admitted in 2018 during a challenging time in his life, highlighting the school’s commitment to supporting students in need.

Since leaving Westminster, Everson-Clare completed his education in the Barossa Valley. Friends of his report that he has been in a difficult situation recently, particularly noting that his welfare payments had been cut.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas remarked that investigations are ongoing, acknowledging the complexity surrounding the circumstances of Stahlhut’s death while emphasizing the importance of thorough inquiries as the matter proceeds through the courts.
