Detectives in Sydney’s Inner West have located a vehicle thought to be involved in a recent pub shooting that resulted in the tragic death of 39-year-old Gilbert Admon Shino and left his friend Maradona Yalda critically injured. The pair was leaving the Harold Park Hotel after watching a UFC event on Sunday evening when they came under fire, with eyewitnesses reporting between six and twelve gunshots.
Shino succumbed to his injuries at the scene on Wigram Road, while Yalda was wounded in multiple areas, attempting to return to the pub for safety. He was later discovered near a garbage bin on Alfred Street and has since been hospitalised at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he is stable following two surgical procedures. Authorities believe Yalda may have been the intended target due to his connections with underworld gangs, whereas Shino had no significant criminal history.
The suspected shooter is thought to have fled in a dark blue Ford Mustang, matching the description of a vehicle found burnt on Primrose Avenue in Rydalmere. A crime scene has been established, and police are investigating any possible links between the burnt car and the shooting incident.
In the aftermath, Shino’s wife, Natasha Avakian, expressed her grief on social media, lamenting the loss of her “devoted husband” and questioning how she would carry on without him. Community tributes have highlighted Shino’s roles as a loving family man and friend, describing him as someone who brought joy and warmth to those around him.
The gunman remains at large, and police are considering the possibility of an accomplice. Authorities are urging anyone with dashcam footage from the time and area of the incident to come forward to aid the investigation. The community is rallying to support Shino’s family during this difficult time, reflecting on the impact of his absence.
