Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a teenage learner driver in a two-vehicle collision in the Hunter region of New South Wales. The accident occurred around 9pm on John Renshaw Drive, Black Hill, involving a Holden Commodore and a Ford ute.
The 17-year-old learner driving the Holden was pronounced dead at the scene. Another 17-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the rear of the car, received on-site medical assistance before being airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, where he is reported to be in critical condition. A 56-year-old male front passenger in the Holden was also treated at the scene and subsequently transported to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, where he is in stable condition.
The driver of the Ford ute, a 62-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and has since undergone mandatory testing at the hospital.
In response to the crash, authorities have established a crime scene and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident. A report will also be compiled for the coroner’s review as part of standard procedure following such incidents.
