Cameron Bancroft is on the verge of making his return following a serious shoulder injury sustained during the recent Big Bash League. The former Australian Test opener collided with teammate Daniel Sams, resulting in fractures to his shoulder and nose, which sidelined him for the remainder of BBL|14. While Sams has recovered from a concussion and returned to play, Bancroft has been undergoing rehabilitation.
In a positive development, he has been appointed captain of Gloucestershire for the upcoming English County season and is optimistic about his comeback. Bancroft plans to participate in the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia next month, before heading to the UK for the summer season. He noted, “The shoulder’s tracking alright,” acknowledging the healing process takes time but expressing eagerness to start playing again in March.
The 32-year-old was previously in contention for a Test recall, but his injury has affected his chances in the Australian setup. Looking ahead, Bancroft aims to lead Gloucestershire to greater success this season, reflecting on the valuable lessons learnt from last year’s campaign and expressing confidence in their ability to compete strongly moving forward.
