Bokassa was acquitted of the sensational accusation of cannibalism. A striking image reveals the large refrigerator allegedly used by Bokassa to store his victims. During the court proceedings, a former chef testified that he had been instructed to prepare and serve human flesh to Bokassa and visiting dignitaries. At the time, cannibalism was classified as a minor offence under Central African Republic law. Additionally, one of Bokassa’s successors had announced a blanket amnesty for misdemeanours, which effectively enabled Bokassa to evade any consequences for his actions.
