Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has boldly stated that Super Rugby Pacific offers a greater intensity than the Test rugby he experienced during last year’s Spring Tour. The young player made his debut for the Waratahs on Friday night, participating in a thrilling 37-36 win in Sydney. Despite a mixed performance at fullback, where he experienced cramp and exited after 66 minutes, his contributions outweighed any shortcomings.

Reflecting on his experience, Suaalii remarked on the heightened tempo and physical contact of Super Rugby, particularly against Kiwi teams like the Highlanders. He admitted there were moments he felt out of position but enjoyed gaining a new perspective while playing in the No. 15 jersey rather than the centres.

Suaalii also praised debutant Siosifa Amone, who made a significant impact by scoring two crucial late tries. He acknowledged Amone’s dedication, noting his transformation after losing 25kg in the pre-season. Suaalii conveyed the importance of the win for team morale and expressed eagerness to build on this success ahead of their next game against the Fijian Drua on February 28 in Sydney, signalling a fresh start after last year’s struggles.
