Tim David made history by scoring the fastest T20 international century by an Australian, leading his team to a 3-0 series victory over the West Indies in a match held on Saturday in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis. David achieved this remarkable feat in just 37 balls, finishing the innings with 102 runs not out, helping Australia chase down the West Indies’ total of 214 runs and secure a six-wicket win.

West Indies opener Brandon King had previously posted a solid 102 runs from 57 deliveries, but it was David’s explosive batting that ultimately dictated the game’s outcome. He reached his half-century in a mere 16 balls, marking the fastest T20 international fifty for an Australian, before moving to a hundred just 21 balls later. This performance surpassed the previous record set by Josh Inglis, who scored a century in 43 balls against Scotland last September.

The Singapore-born cricketer applied intense pressure on the West Indies bowlers, hitting 11 sixes and six fours, demonstrating raw power and exceptional timing. Interestingly, David achieved this milestone using the bat of Andre Russell, a West Indies great who recently played his final international match.

Commenting on his achievement, David expressed his delight, stating, “That was pretty good fun. A little bit surreal at the moment, so it might take a while to sink in, but I enjoyed it a lot.” Despite being dropped on 90 by King, who missed what should have been an easy catch, David’s performance stood out. He acknowledged that scoring a century for Australia was a childhood dream of his.

Aside from David’s stellar innings, the Australian team received contributions from Mitch Marsh and Glenn Maxwell, who scored 22 and 20 runs, respectively, while Inglis and Cameron Green added 15 and 11 runs to the scoreboard. David shared a productive partnership with his Hobart Hurricanes teammate, Mitch Owen, who contributed an unbeaten 36 from 16 balls.

David’s record-setting innings marked his first big performance of the series, as Australia looks to maintain their winning momentum in the upcoming fourth and fifth matches, both scheduled to take place in Basseterre, with the next game starting at 9am Australian Eastern Standard Time on Sunday.
