The Tigers are grappling with a significant challenge as they face competition for promising young hooker Tallyn Da Silva, particularly from the Eels, among other clubs. This situation comes on the heels of the club’s loss of skilled playmaker Lachlan Galvin to the Bulldogs, making Da Silva’s retention increasingly vital. Despite his potential to be a starting NRL hooker, Da Silva is stuck behind seasoned veteran Api Koroisau, who is not only performing well but also serves as team captain and is currently in discussions for a new contract.

Parramatta has been searching for a top-class hooker since Reed Mahoney’s departure to the Bulldogs in 2022, and Da Silva would be an invaluable addition to their roster. His manager, Mario Tartak, has confirmed that five rival clubs are interested should Da Silva become available. Tartak highlighted that although Da Silva appreciates the Tigers, the club’s decisions regarding Koroisau will determine his future, with the likelihood being that Da Silva may need to look elsewhere if Koroisau remains.

In another shift, North Queensland is also on the lookout for a quality hooker following the loss of State of Origin star Reece Robson to the Roosters.

There’s also a former Test and State of Origin player contributing to grassroots football while navigating challenges related to his temperament, having been sin-binned consistently, creating frustrations among teammates.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast’s Rilee Jorgensen, a talented NRLW back-rower, will miss the entire season after undergoing delicate back surgery last year. The Titans have opted for a cautious approach, choosing to focus on her recovery, aiming for a strong return in 2026.

Additionally, several clubs are keen on Newcastle’s exciting young fullback Connor Votano, who has been unable to secure a starting position due to the fierce competition from established players like Kalyn Ponga and Fletcher Sharpe. Votano, recognised for his talent with awards and representative honours, is under contract until 2026, yet two rival teams are reportedly eyeing him for a move before his deal expires.

In summary, the landscape for these emerging rugby league talents is shifting, highlighting the intense competition within the NRL and the complexities clubs face in managing their rosters amid rising interest from rival teams.
