Cronulla is facing mounting pressure to dismiss Andrew Fifita from his role as coach of the Tarsha Gale women’s junior representative team following accusations of swearing at a match official during a recent A Grade game. Fifita, celebrated for his role in the Sharks’ 2016 grand final win, was ejected from a match on Saturday while playing for De La Salle against Gymea, reportedly directing an obscene term towards the referee.

The 36-year-old, who has also represented Australia in Test matches, could face a five-match suspension if found guilty, raising significant concerns for his coaching position. A source close to the Sharks indicated the dilemma due to Fifita’s stature within the club, stating that a decision on his future won’t be made until after he attends a judiciary hearing.

NSW Rugby League has confirmed that a charge of grade two offensive language has been levelled against Fifita following his dismissal in the match at Captain Cook Oval. A spokesperson revealed that he has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear before the judiciary to contest the charge.

Compounding the situation is Fifita’s employment with the Sharks in a culture and welfare role, further complicating dynamics at the club. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold, particularly concerning his responsibilities as a coach for emerging young talent. Following the judiciary proceedings, the NSWRL has stated they will refrain from further comments until the matter reaches a resolution.
