The Wests Tigers are optimistic that Tallyn Da Silva’s move to the Eels will not hinder their prospects. Their confidence stems from the rising talent of Jared Haywood, the 18-year-old local junior and Australian Schoolboys captain, who is seen as a future superstar hooker. While Haywood is still developing and adjusting to the rigours of the NRL, he has been promoted to the NSW Cup, allowing him to gain experience against seasoned players. The club anticipates that by next season, he may be a contender for NRL selection.

However, the challenge lies in securing Haywood’s long-term commitment and ensuring he remains with the Tigers, particularly given the involvement of player manager Isaac Moses, who is often considered a problematic presence in negotiations.

In other news, Adrian Lam, the storied PNG Kumul legend, is being considered to coach the new PNG NRL franchise set to debut in 2028. While other candidates, like former Souths coach Jason Demetriou and veteran Wayne Bennett, are also in the mix, Lam’s popularity as a national hero in Papua New Guinea could provide the club with a strong foundation as it begins its NRL journey. Lam has a notable history as a player with the Roosters and in representative football and he has transitioned effectively into coaching.

Meanwhile, the Canberra Raiders have made a significant acquisition by signing Queensland beach sprint champion Bailen Noy. The 17-year-old, who has been playing for Wynnum in the Cyril Connell Cup, attracted much interest from various clubs but felt that the Raiders were the right fit for his development. Noy, a versatile wing/centre, is set to relocate to the ACT for training and will pursue his NRL ambition with a three-year contract under the expertise of former dual international Mat Rogers.

Lastly, there are concerns regarding a player who switched clubs this season but has not lived up to expectations due to a lax approach to training and game readiness. Despite his underperformance—attributed to increased weight and shortcuts during the week—he remains unchallenged in the team, partly due to his familial ties to the head coach.
