The Sydney Roosters are contemplating a bold move to sign Manly Sea Eagles’ seasoned captain, Daly Cherry-Evans (DCE), for the upcoming season. This approach echoes the Roosters’ successful acquisition of former Storm star Cooper Cronk, which facilitated their back-to-back premierships in 2018 and 2019. The Roosters view Cherry-Evans, who will be a free agent at the end of the current season, as an ideal mentor for their young squad as they rebuild.

At 36, Cherry-Evans remains the oldest player in the NRL but continues to perform impressively despite his wealth of experience, with over 300 games played. There is speculated interest from the Roosters, though sources from the club have indicated this is currently under wraps and has yet to develop into formal negotiations.

Trent Robinson, head coach of the Roosters, recently signed veteran Chad Townsend, who will likely retire at the end of this season. Multiple sources have confirmed the Roosters’ interest in Cherry-Evans, emphasizing that discussions are preliminary at this stage.

Additionally, the Dolphins, who hail from Cherry-Evans’ career beginnings in Redcliffe, are also reportedly keen on the veteran halfback.

In other league news, Matty Nicholson had a standout debut for the Raiders, scoring two tries against the Broncos. His former club, Warrington, lost a valuable player due to smart contract negotiations led by Nicholson and his management, which included a buy-out clause that he activated after three successful seasons.

Moreover, Manly is monitoring Beau Alexander, the son of iconic player Greg ‘Brandy’ Alexander. The 18-year-old halfback has begun his SG Ball Cup journey impressively, showcasing talent reminiscent of his father. He is among a group of players managed by former star Braith Anasta, indicating potential future prospects for Manly.

Looking ahead, the North Queensland Cowboys are emerging as strong contenders to engage in the Las Vegas trip in 2026. With their substantial fan base and connections to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, they are poised to make a significant impact during the event, enhancing the league’s presence in America.
