Former Kangaroos rugby league player Matt Adamson is set to embark on a significant mission in England next week, where he, alongside seasoned administrator Gary Hetherington, will be focused on revitalising the sport in London. Their success could have far-reaching effects on rugby league both in Australia and the UK.

In a bold move, the NRL is contemplating a potential acquisition of the English game, and bolstering a strong team in London would enhance the appeal of the Super League considerably. The Broncos, currently competing in the Championship, are prioritising promotion to Super League, where they would face off against renowned teams such as Wigan, Leeds, and Warrington, all on a live television platform.

Adamson’s initial goal is to elevate the Broncos into the top tier, thereby establishing a well-supported team that could attract both expatriate Australians and Kiwis residing in London. This demographic could prove vital for building a substantial fan base if the club manages to capture their enthusiasm.

The current season offers an added advantage, with London’s Super League clubs having 10 available spots for imports, allowing room for a number of skilled players from the NRL to transition. Adamson, who has been working as a player agent in Queensland and possesses a keen eye for talent, may leverage this opportunity to strengthen his squad effectively.

Although Adamson, who has a history with Hetherington from his time at Leeds, opted not to share extensive details when approached by Wide World of Sports, he hinted at promising possibilities ahead: “It’s too soon but it is exciting times.”

If the Broncos get it right, the implications could redefine the rugby league landscape, establishing a vibrant competition in the capital that could energise the game’s profile across both hemispheres.
