The Titans have received disappointing news regarding their finals campaign, as star fullback Keano Kini is likely to be out for the remainder of the season due to a serious neck injury sustained in last weekend’s match against the Knights. Following a specialist consultation, it has been confirmed that Kini will require surgery, which could leave him sidelined for up to five months. Recognised as the Titans’ player of the year after winning the Paul Broughton Medal, Kini was pivotal in coach Des Hasler’s strategy for a successful season.

In Kini’s absence, promising 22-year-old Jaylan de Groot has been selected to fill the crucial fullback position for the upcoming game against the Roosters. De Groot made his NRL debut last season but will need to step up significantly to replicate Kini’s game-winning capabilities.

In other NRL news, Tallyn Da Silva, a breakout hooker for the Tigers, is attracting interest from rival clubs as he approaches the end of his contract in 2026. His performances have drawn comparisons to Tigers legend Robbie Farah, showcasing his talent in the dummy-half position. Despite clubs eyeing him, Tigers chief Shane Richardson intends to secure Da Silva on a long-term deal before the season concludes.

Meanwhile, the Dragons face a challenge in retaining one of their emerging stars, Finau Latu. The young lock is off contract at season’s end and will be eligible to engage with other clubs after the sixth round of the NSW Cup. Latu has made a name for himself, playing for the Australian Schoolboys and contributing to the Dragons’ recent success in the SG Ball competition.

Additionally, there’s speculation about a struggling high-profile player at a club, who, despite not displaying any negative behaviour, is failing to justify his hefty salary. This situation is causing the club to consider offloading him, possibly to either the UK or another NRL team, although they would need to absorb part of his significant contract to facilitate his exit.

As the season progresses, the Titans, Tigers, and Dragons are all navigating player issues that could significantly impact their performances on the field.
