Phil Gould has shared insights into the quick developments regarding Lachlan Galvin’s potential move to the Bulldogs. The young talent, who is just 19, is poised to secure a release from the Wests Tigers shortly and sign a long-term contract with Canterbury to commence immediately.

Initially, when Galvin announced his plans to leave the Tigers after the upcoming season, Gould was vague about the Bulldogs’ interest, emphasising the club’s commitment to its existing plans. He clarified that, due to Galvin’s ongoing contract with the Tigers until the end of 2026, discussions could not begin until 1 November, which did not align with the Bulldogs’ timeline.

However, recent negotiations have shifted dramatically. Gould revealed that on Tuesday, they received communication from Galvin’s manager about a potential release from his current club, making him available sooner than expected. This sudden turn has prompted Gould to reconsider the Bulldogs’ approach.

Gould commented on the frenzy surrounding Galvin’s aspirations, noting that whilst he has expressed a desire to join Canterbury, a deal has yet to be finalised. He anticipates having clearer details within the next 48 hours and is keen to accommodate Galvin’s preference for the Bulldogs.

Over the past 18 months, Gould has publicly praised Galvin’s abilities and is eager for him to join coach Cameron Ciraldo’s squad. However, this decision raises questions about the current roster dynamics, particularly concerning Toby Sexton’s future, who may not remain with Canterbury.

While Gould acknowledged Galvin’s versatility—having played multiple positions including fullback, five-eighth, and halfback—he indicated that the decision regarding his specific role would ultimately rest with the coaching staff. Gould firmly believes in nurturing talented players, asserting that success in competitions hinges on having skilled individuals on the team.

In summary, the Bulldogs are on the verge of a significant recruitment, bringing in Galvin, with Gould expressing optimism about the young player’s impact on the future of the club.
