Tesla has announced a recall for two of its popular models, the Model Y and Model 3, due to potential software problems that may cause a loss of steering power. Nearly 300 vehicles produced in 2022 and 2023 are affected by this issue.
The concern centres around the electronic power assist steering system, which may not function correctly due to the software glitch. As stated in the recall notice, “This may result in a loss of power steering assist and could require greater steering effort from the driver.” Such a failure could significantly heighten the risk of accidents, potentially endangering both vehicle occupants and other road users.
Tesla’s solution to this problem involves an over-the-air software update that will automatically correct the issue without requiring drivers to schedule a service appointment. The software patch is set to be deployed to all affected vehicles, ensuring that the necessary fixes are implemented swiftly.
Drivers should check their vehicle’s software version to determine if they are impacted by this recall. According to Tesla, vehicles running software version 2023.38.4 or later are not affected. Owners can verify their software version easily by navigating to ‘Controls’ and then ‘Software’ on their vehicle’s touchscreen.
This proactive approach by Tesla highlights the company’s commitment to safety and customer satisfaction while addressing potential issues before they lead to more serious consequences.
