In a tragic incident in western Sydney, 58-year-old Sonmez Alagoz, a well-known pizza shop owner, was allegedly stabbed to death outside his business in what appears to be a random attack. Alagoz was discovered on the Great Western Highway near Kingswood shortly after 10pm, suffering a fatal stab wound to the chest, just 40 minutes before he was due to close his Pizza Stop shop.
Emergency services attempted to assist him at the scene, but he later succumbed to his injuries at Westmead Hospital around 12.30am. His nephew described Alagoz as a beloved figure in the community who had served the people of Kingswood and Penrith for years. After the attack, the family returned to the shop to finish Alagoz’s tasks and clean the premises.
Following the incident, six teenagers — four boys and two girls aged between 13 and 17 — were arrested, alongside a 19-year-old man, as part of an ongoing investigation by homicide detectives. NSW Police described the scenario as distressing and noted the community’s deep connection to Alagoz, highlighting the shock surrounding his death. Investigations continue, with police appealing for witnesses and any relevant footage from the area.
