Teenage batting sensation Sam Konstas has made a significant mark with a domestic one-day century for New South Wales (NSW), scoring 116 runs off 98 balls against Queensland at Allan Border Field. Despite enduring cramps that necessitated medical assistance, the 19-year-old’s performance showcased his potential as he aims for a return to the Australian XI for the World Test Championship final.

This was Konstas’ first List A century and comes after being omitted from the squad during the recent series in Sri Lanka. His innings included 13 fours and three sixes, offering selectors plenty to consider as Australia prepares for an important clash against South Africa in June. While NSW fell short of a 311-run target, Konstas’ explosive batting—highlighted by unconventional shots, including a switch hit six—demonstrated his dynamic style.

Konstas lost his wicket attempting an ambitious slog, but his earlier display of skill and resilience caught the attention of many. Following this match, he is set to play for NSW against Victoria in the upcoming Sheffield Shield. His future remains uncertain, with the possibility of reclaiming his position in the Test team alongside Usman Khawaja.
