Sydney’s Justin McInerney may face scrutiny from the match review officer following a high collision with Carlton’s Jack Silvagni, which left the latter momentarily dazed. During the second quarter, Silvagni retrieved the ball from a contest only to be struck high by McInerney, resulting in him struggling to regain his footing. Fox Footy commentator Gerard Whateley described the contact as “heavy,” while Jason Dunstall remarked on Silvagni’s unstable posture post-collision.

Interestingly, this incident occurred shortly after Sydney’s Aaron Francis sustained an injury from a hit to the back of the head by Brodie Grundy in a separate play. Fortunately, Silvagni was able to stand and leave the field but was later substituted out due to a groin issue, though he was cleared of any concussion symptoms. In contrast, Francis did not return after half-time.

Adding to the drama, Sydney’s Joel Amartey also found himself in the match review spotlight following a collision with Carlton’s Jordan Boyd, who was caught off guard while attempting to handpass the ball. This hit resulted in a significant penalty awarded to Carlton, with Boyd visibly struggling to get back on his feet for some time following the incident.

Dunstall noted that Amartey’s actions would likely be examined by officials the next day. As the game concluded, Sydney secured a victory over Carlton with a score of 11.12 (78) to 9.8 (62).
