The day broke with a stunning sunrise, quickly giving way to oppressive heat that intensified as the hours progressed. Western Sydney’s suburbs experienced the highest temperatures, particularly in Penrith and Campbelltown. By 1pm, Richmond in the north-west reported a sweltering 34 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Badgery’s Creek, also in the west, matched this temperature, while Canterbury reached an even hotter 35 degrees. Horsely Park was on the verge of hitting 36 degrees, as the relentless heat continued to dominate the region.
