Two former nurses, Sarah Abu Lebdeh and Ahmad Rashad Nadir, are set to appear in court following the release of a controversial video in which they allegedly made threats against Israeli patients. The footage, shared by Israeli social media figure Max Veifer, features the pair stating their intention to refuse treatment to Israelis and expressing violent sentiments.

Both nurses were employed at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in southwest Sydney when they participated in this recorded conversation via the online platform Chatruletka in February. Their comments have provoked significant backlash, including public condemnation from high-profile figures such as the Prime Minister and the Premier of New South Wales.

Abu Lebdeh faced charges in February for making threats of violence against a group, as well as for using online communications to threaten, harass, or cause offence. She is currently out on bail, with restrictions that prevent her from leaving the country or engaging with social media platforms. Nadir, aged 27, was hospitalised during the aftermath of the video’s publication and was charged in March with similar offences related to menacing behaviour and possession of illicit drugs. He subsequently issued an apology through his lawyer for his remarks.

The two are scheduled to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney today. In light of their actions, Australia’s health regulatory authority has taken preventative measures by suspending their nursing registrations nationwide.
