This evening, the Sydney metro network experienced delays stemming from a power-related problem involving a train at Barangaroo Station. According to a spokesperson for Sydney Metro, the situation was attributed to a “Pantograph issue,” which affects the connection between the train and the overhead power lines.
As a result, metro services between Sydenham and Barangaroo have been interrupted. Passengers on a train at Barangaroo were inconvenienced, as they were stuck for 20 minutes before the doors were opened automatically. In light of the disruptions, trains on the segment between Barangaroo and Tallawong have been rerouted to operate in a loop, while a shuttle service is currently running between Barangaroo and Sydenham on the southern line.
A representative from Transport for NSW confirmed that troubleshooting efforts for the affected train are ongoing. This incident comes shortly after another event last week, where an issue with the overhead power lines also caused widespread halts throughout Sydney’s train network.
