In Sydney, the local community is urging for the termination of the Banksia Tigers soccer club due to ongoing incidents of violence and misconduct during matches. Recently, the team refused to engage with media representatives from 9News, even calling the police in response to their presence.
The latest altercation occurred during a match against Scots FC Lions at Gardiner Park, where a brawl erupted as spectators stormed onto the pitch. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in the abandonment of the game after a 20-year-old was assaulted. Residents have reported that such disturbances are not uncommon, with many claiming that similar incidents happen regularly at the Banksia Tigers’ home ground.
Local residents, like Garnet Brown, have expressed their concerns, stating that police have had to intervene multiple times this year alone, citing issues including violence, noise, and disturbances related to parking. He commented, “It’s far from ideal really,” highlighting the adverse effects these events have on the neighbourhood. There are reports of families and couples relocating to avoid the ongoing tension and fear associated with the club’s matches, with residents stating that everyone is on edge during game weekends.
Further compounding the situation, 9News has discovered footage from a previous match in Peakhurst, where a Banksia Tigers player was seen kicking an opponent in the head. Authorities are currently looking into this incident as part of their investigation into the club’s behaviour.
Attempts to get a response from the Banksia Tigers regarding these incidents have been unfruitful, as the club continues to avoid addressing the growing concerns of the community.
