Police have discovered suspected human remains in the ongoing search for missing Bundaberg teenager Pheobe Bishop. The remains were located around 2:30 pm today near Good Night Scrub National Park, less than an hour from Gin Gin. While the remains have yet to be formally identified, authorities are liaising with Pheobe’s family and suspect they belong to the 17-year-old.
Pheobe’s mother, Kylie Johnson, expressed her heartbreak upon hearing the news, stating that her pain had escalated since her daughter went missing, and this new development feels like it is tearing her apart. A crime scene has been established at the discovery site, and police say the findings came as a result of additional enquiries and investigations conducted earlier today.
In connection with Pheobe’s case, two of her housemates, 34-year-old James Wood and 33-year-old Tanika Bromley, were arrested in Bundaberg and charged with murder and interfering with a corpse. Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield confirmed that they are alleged to have taken Pheobe’s life and moved her body multiple times, with one location identified as the Good Night Scrub National Park—an area that had been under scrutiny throughout the investigation.
Inspector Mansfield anticipates finding more evidence as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, two additional crime scenes have been identified: the home in Gin Gin where Pheobe lived with Wood and Bromley, and the grey Hyundai IX35 belonging to her housemate.
Pheobe was supposed to fly from Bundaberg Airport to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend but never checked in for her flight. Police are urging anyone with information regarding Pheobe’s whereabouts or the movements of her housemate’s vehicle between 15 to 18 May in the greater Gin Gin area to come forward. Investigations are still active with Wood and Bromley currently awaiting their court proceedings.
