The US Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia has released footage capturing a serious security breach at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where a man named Cole Allen ran past security while wielding a shotgun. The incident occurred as police officers were in the process of packing away metal detectors, with many guests already inside the ballroom.

The video reveals Allen sprinting past officers, leading one to fire three shots at him from close range, though no officers appeared to be hit. There are ongoing concerns regarding how a Secret Service agent was injured during this incident; the agent, who reportedly sustained a bullet wound through a bullet-proof vest, has raised questions about the nature of the shooting. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro has stated that there is no indication that the agent was injured due to friendly fire and has confirmed that her office, together with the FBI, will pursue the investigation thoroughly to ensure justice is served.

Amidst this chaos, Allen’s defence team has questioned whether he actually discharged his weapon, citing a lack of visible muzzle flash in the footage. However, prosecutors have pointed out that they recovered what seems to be a buckshot pellet at the scene, suggesting that Allen likely did fire his shotgun. Despite this contention, he has not been charged specifically for wounding the officer yet faces severe penalties concerning other charges, potentially leading to a life sentence.

In a show of support for the investigation, President Donald Trump endorsed Pirro, downplaying claims of friendly fire and dismissing the idea of wearing a bulletproof vest, joking about the weight gain that might involve. Additional footage has emerged showing Allen the day before the breach, appearing to survey the hotel environment.

As the investigation unfolds, Allen has opted not to request bail during his recent court appearance, and officials continue to piece together the events surrounding this alarming breach of security.
