A surfer in northern New South Wales has narrowly escaped an encounter with a shark. The incident, captured on a surf camera at Cabarita Beach at 7:26 am, shows the surfer paddling alongside a dark shape before splashing in the water.

Following the event, footage shared on the Instagram account “18 Seconds” revealed the surfer, identified as Brad Ross, standing on the beach with a broken surfboard that had a large bite taken out of it. Additional images showed Ross being embraced by a friend after the ordeal.

Witness Kim Maree, who filmed a beautiful sunrise before the incident, commented on the situation, remarking, “A bit of drama on the beach after I filmed the beautiful sunrise. Another shark attack.” The NSW Shark Smart account later confirmed the reported shark incident at Norries Head Beach, which is located in close proximity to Cabarita.

Local reports highlighted that a great white shark was spotted by drone surveillance shortly after the encounter. In response to the incident, the local council has taken precautionary measures by closing Cabarita Beach, situated just south of Kingscliff and the NSW/Queensland border.
